Introducing the New DeWalt…Lawnmower?
Updated: Jul 3, 2018
Yep, that’s right. One of the world’s leading power-tool manufacturers is now making lawnmowers. That may seem strange to some, but for the past several years DeWalt has been quietly producing an innovative line of outdoor power equipment.
Making the leap from drill/drivers and circular saws to lawnmowers makes a bit more sense when you consider that DeWalt has been on the forefront of lithium-ion battery technology from the very beginning. And the company used that knowledge to develop a line of lawn-and-garden tools that run off of 20-, 40- and 60-volt battery platforms. The company currently offers more than 50 cordless products, including string trimmers, chainsaws, leaf blowers, hedge trimmers, and now two new lawnmowers.
The 2x20V Max mower (Model DCMW220; $399) is powered by two 20-volt, 5.0-amp-hour lithium-ion batteries. And the 40V Max mower (Model DCMW290; $399) runs off of a single 40-volt, 6.0 amp-hour battery. Each mower has a super-efficient brushless motor, durable metal mowing deck, 20-in.-wide cutting swath, and an easy-fold handle for convenient transport and storage. Plus, the mowers can mulch, collect or rear-discharge the grass clippings.
Of course, the really cool part of owning a battery-powered lawnmower is that you don’t have mess with gas and oil, or be subjected to exhaust fumes. Cordless mowers are extremely quiet and clean, and surprisingly powerful. And unlike an electric mower, you’re not tethered to an extension cord, so you’re free to roam far and wide.
